The Rendsburg Eye Clinic was founded by Dr. med. Karlheinz Oggel in 1989. It is the first out-patient medical facility for cataract surgery in Northern Germany. Dr. Oggel belonged to the pioneers, who applied sonogram technology in cataract surgery. The number of operations doubled continuously during the clinic's founding years. Today, over 8,000 intraocular operations are carried out annually. A complete spectrum of modern diagnostics including non-invasive therapies, as well as in-patient surgery is offered. In 1993 Dr. Oggel and Dr. Wüstenberg received accreditation for the purpose of training medical interns, meaning interns are offered qualification in all relevant fields in order to fulfill certification requirements. Within the same year refractive surgery was introduced with the emphasis on Laser-in-situ-Keratomileusis (LASIK). With the addition of Associate Professor Dr. med. Stefan Behrendt to the clinic staff in 2000, the clinic expanded its operative procedures to include modern retinal and intravitreal surgery. The clinic received quality management certification according to DIN EN ISO 9001. In 2002 Dr. Georg Häring joined the clinic staff to enhance the new retinal and intravitreal surgical team. With increasing number of patients and quality standards, the clinic continues to adapt to meet these needs. With this in mind, an in-patient ward for 10 patients with 4 patient rooms was added, as well as further operation and administration facilities and two most modern sterilisation units. In addition to various corrective laser procedures, the clinic carries out a full spectrum of operative procedures: From eye lid and cataract surgery to the most intricate and difficult intravitreal and retinal surgeries. Naturally, we carry out standard ophthalmologic diagnostic procedures. Further, we offer the most modern diagnostic methods available for examining vision deficiencies and vision alterations, for example, fluorescence angiography, Heidelberg Retina Tomography, Optical Coherence Tomography, electrophysiological examinations such as: VEP, ERG and EOG. |
